Glasson is a glorious place to stop but anyone who has visited will know about its limited access. I’ve heard rumour access is now severely restricted possible once a week so they can retain depth in the canal?

Also have they done anything about the silting in the outer dock as I was neaped there for two weeks last year.

It’s an 8.6m this Saturday and I draw 1.95m so wondering if anyone has any very recent experience I think it would be very tight. I’d ask the marine but I don’t think they would reliable know.

Today's email with the details of this weekend's possible opening times:

"Taking into consideration that Bank Holiday weekend is approaching I have been in touch with The Canal and River Trust to see if they would allow BWML customers to transit the lock on both Friday 24th and Monday 27th August 2018.

If you would like to take this opportunity please contact the lock keepers on 07391 747445 and confirm your interest so a list of boats can be provided to The Trust for consideration.

Yours sincerely

I'm not sure the outer basin has been dredged. At least, not significantly.

The whole thing is a shambles. They've got a big pump by the lock that pumps water into the marina canal basin, but then they're worried about the ecological damage of making it too salty if they over pump. But why they don't simply pump into the lock chamber itself from the outer harbour when the tide rises towards HW, no one knows. Then a finite amount of water would give the necessary water levels, nothing would be lost from the canal and precious little salt would enter the marina basin.

Thanks motor_sailor. Assuming no dredging then doubtful anyone with significant draft would be able to transit the outerdock on Friday.

Looks like a trip to Piel instead.

It sounds like a right mess at Glasson at the moment - and I hear that Alistair has left as well!
If coming to Piel this weekend you might be interested to know that we are having our Regatta at Roa with a combined dinghy/cruiser race on Saturday and separate races on Sunday; all in Walney Channel.
