SWMBO has a painful swelling on her knee which the doc diagnosed as Housemaid's Knee. She does all her gardening kneeling down because of a bad back. Recently she has spent a lot of time kneeling to clear & clean the house in anticipation of a visit from family. But what caused the complaint? Kneeling on the foredeck once to pick up the mooring the day we launched of course.

No. You caused it; by your selfish addiction to a pastime that most women would have nothing to do with if not dragged along by an uncaring brute of a husband.

How do I know this? :D

Infection Under The Skin

I was told by my doctor that it is an infection under the skin. I got it many years ago removing old carpet tiles from a bathroom. I was wearing old jeans with holes in the knees.

Anyway, they marked the swollen area edges with a pen and said that if the swelling advanced beyond the marks I was to to phone the doctor immediately and they would arrange for more powerful drugs to be administered intravenously

It started as an ache in the morning and by lunch time I couldn't put any weight on the leg. I got a run to my doctors by a work colleague as there was no way I could operate my motorbike.

I cant quite remember the treatment but a large dose of penicillin was used and maybe a steroid to reduce the inflammation (but I could be wrong on the steroid). It was all over within 48 hours.

Get her a pair of kneepads. Mustoe do them for I think about a tenner.

Not that uncommon for bowmen to wear them. I got a pair because I was trimming on a boat where I had to take a lot of weight with my knees up against jammers and my knees were black & blue after any serious racing.

And in the case of a pre-patellar bursa, once can be enough............I knows, see 'cos I had one. Ice pack, plenty of NSAID's and maybe a course of anti-biotics if it gets infected...............oh, and NO kneeling!
