Houseboat at Marlow

at work we were just discussing the new 'houseboat' that is pictured below, and a few questions were raised.

would it need a river licence or boat safety certificate.? I thought it wouldn't as it is within their property and not on the main river or a marina, plus although floating doesn't have a means of propulsion.

Not sure if there is a bedroom at the rear of the structure, but if yes, would it be a way of getting extra living space without having to worry about planning permission as not seen as a permanment structure?

I am no expert when it comes to these matters but just wondered if anyone knew the answers.

One of the guys at work who saw it the other week told his young son that it is actually a submarine (and that it was a periscope on the roof you can see), with big windows so they could see all the fish underwater !!

Somebody appears to have gone to some trouble and expense to design something in keeping with the art deco style house in the background.
Well done them.
Wondering if any neighbours got up a petition to object to its existance.
A wonderful mish mash of house designs along the Thames.
I personally like the Hof Houses and the house with the blue tiled roof.

There is a huge new Hof house going up just up from Shepperton Lock. Looks very impressive.

The house that was demolished to allow the vast Hof house to be built opposite Thames Court I always thought looked rather nice. I do however work for a brick manufacturer and not a glass company.

There are always those who try to circumvent planning rules claiming that the regulations either do not apply to them or they are being being picked on by the local planning office and being businesses providing jobs etc etc they should be excused from the usual formalities. Any businessman worth his salt would have had a natter with the planning officer about what he might get away with months before taking any action or spending money.

Case of chap building a house in Surrey green belt and having the money to fight every inch of the way to prevent its demolition.
The bulldozers finally went in recently.
Shame it really was quite impressive.He must have spent far more in legal fees than the cost of a decent plot with planning permission.

Rules are rules, prone to flooding you dont say.
I own some green belt land locally, I will do what i want on it, and get a few visitors to say they like
what i have done. All will be ok.

Unfortunately legally he doesn't have a chance as he knocked down the "historic" boathouse without permission then put the floating replacement there without permission too.

If it wasn't for the bl00dy referendum, Cookham lock, narrowboats, scruffy liveaboards, shoals, too few lock keepers, politicians, the weather, the CRT, the price of fish, the 5% off the population who don't give a sh1t about the rules, the age of police officers today and why my new phone is so tricky to use as a phone, we'd have nothing to moan about!
