House battery choice

The Lucas name is owned by different people for different products. For batteries it's Manbat (originally Manchester Batteries).

I've got 2 hankooks on mine as well plus both cars have them. Never had a problem so far. I'm not sure it's worth spending way over the top on batteries as they only seem to live for a set time no matter how much they were in the first place.

+1, although mine are 1+3 AGM's. The three are now 3years old and surviving well, the 1 is a year old...

The one I got was a Hankook DC24 which is described as deep cycle and large enough for my requirements at a good price plus a four year warranty (although claiming for premature failure would be difficult I imagine). I've had several Hankook in the past which have performed well. So much depends on whether they are kept well charged and mine is charged by solar only during the summer and a little C tec during the winter.

Batt Mega describe it as deep cycle.
Its manufacturers AtlasBX don't, they call it dual purpose. "Dual purpose batteries are the ideal compromise between high starting and extra reserve power for accessory loads." http://www.atlasbx.co.kr/en/product/marine03.jsp
They also produce an XDC series of which they say "Extreme dual purpose batteries are the ideal compromise between high starting and moderate deep cycle service." http://www.atlasbx.co.kr/en/product/marine02.jsp

I'm not knocking them for what they are, I also have AtlasBX batteries badged Alphaline from Batt Mega, just don't fool yourself. Or be fooled.
http://www.atlasbx.co.kr/en/index.jsp shows the brands AtlasBX produce.

In my research(?) I have come across the NCC Verified Leisure Battery Scheme. They are a trade body for the caravan industry. They say that the batteries that make it onto their list have been tested by independent labs.
I can't find details of the tests involved. I suspect the battery manufacturers/labellers probably have to pay to get tested so the list is probably rather selective,

http://www.thencc.org.uk/Our_Schemes/ncc_verified_leisure_battery_scheme.aspx

Anyway my Lucas LX31 batteries are on there and classed as 'B' so there is hope that the claims have been independently assessed and verified.

Hadn't heard of the NCC scheme but there is some info on it here https://www.outandaboutlive.co.uk/m...ctical-advice/choosing-a-ncc-verified-battery

Class C - minimum 60Ah capacity and cycle life >70cycles 50% depth
Class B - >90Ah and >200 50% cycles
Class A - >90Ah and >350 50% cycles

Not very demanding minima compared with serious sailing use. However the list of approved ones does give the claimed cycle life for each listed model
http://www.thencc.org.uk/downloads/Verified_Battery_Register_8June_2016.pdf

The Odyssey PC1800FT - via distributor Platinum which is one of the scheme's sponsors - is approved for a startling 1850 cycles to 50%. The manufacturers claim "up to 400 cycles at 80% DoD." Somewhat disproportionate.

The Atlas battery you reference to quotes a CCA of 680, the Hankook doesn't quote CCA and is also badged Hankook not Atlas so is it the same one we're referring to? Not saying yea or nay, your knowledge is probably better than mine. It's bl**dy heavy though, which is a good indicator of lead content.

But Batt Mega also list the Hankook XV24 with a CCA of 720, matching the XV24 on the AtlasBX website.
I think it's BM's idea of smart marketing to leave the CCA off for those who think no deep cycle battery can have a CCA (or if it doesn't have a CCA it's a deep cycle!).
Unfortunately Batt Mega don't list the XDC.
So yes, I'm pretty damn sure that a BM Hankook DC24 is an AtlasBX Hankook DC24!
The one in the pic on the Atlas site is badged E-nex, which seems to be their house name for the leisure design series, see http://www.atlasbx.co.kr/en/technology/leisure.jsp for more detail. I don't think they actually badge anything as AtlasBX or E-nex in the market, they use the brands shown at http://www.atlasbx.co.kr/en/index.jsp including both Hankook and Alphaline. I don't know why Batt Mega have changed from Alphaline to Hankook but it might have been to avoid confusion with Alpha Batteries at a guess.
I agree weight is a good guide, pity neither BM nor Atlas list a weight for them.
I repeat I'm not knocking AtlasBX who seem to be a substantial producer and happy to identify their brands, and mine (Alphaline) have been OK so far, just be realistic.

We shall see how it performs and I'm not expecting it to be as good as a pair of 6v golf cart batteries but I can replace it four times for the same cost so good 'bang per buck's. As my charging is also a little bit or miss, I wouldn't have any thing expensive and sensitive like a Trojan.
