I am considering the purchase of one of these as they seem to be very good value compared to the competition. Has anyone any experience of Hotpots, both installation and performance?

I was involved with a hire fleet a few years ago and about 15 of them were fitted with calorifiers of similar construction to the hotpot. All of them used the 6 gallon one and they worked very well. Engines included direct cooled 2001, 3 cylinder Bukh both directly and indirectly cooled and a three cyl Yanmar.
I have enough confidence in them to have fitted one in the boat I am currently building.
Ihe main problem is that when winterising the boat (especially in northern Scotland) they MUST be fully drained. If they do suffer damage it is possible to repair them by brazing.
If you decide to fit an immersion heater use a 1Kw maximum with two built in thermostats. The reason for this is, over 1Kw may be too much for some marina shorepower supplies and one of the two thermostats is a safety over temperature trip. On all of the boats they gave many years of service and only gave trouble when a really cold spell caught some boats still in comission.
Cheers
Iain
