Hi,
Escaping from the Bristol Channel forum so can anyone suggest a nice but reasonable price hotel near legoland (taking our son there for one night stay) Ideally near the Thames and a few pubs/restaraunts/boats etc. Also ideally more west.
Cheers in advance.

Anywhere in Windsor or Eton I would suggest. Depends on how much you want to spend. There's a Christopher Wren in both Windsor and Eton, the latter being cheaper.

budget?

You could stay in Marlow. J8/9 of the M4 and 20-25 mins to legoland.

There is a famous posh riverside hotel called the compleat angler in Marlow. They have their own launch. 2 restaurants, posh and very very posh. From there you can walk to about 35 pubs and restaurants (including the cheerful soul, the winners of "the restaurant" tv programme last year) if you don't want to eat in.

We stayed there after we'd bought our house but before we moved in. Many rooms overlook the weir. My wife now takes her management team there for awaydays, she has the swanky dinner then walks home whilst they stay to talk about the boss (her!)

On the other bank of the river is a Premier Inn. A stones throw from the river and as many pubs to walk to, no view of the river from the rooms though but perfectly adequate and a lot cheaper than the angler.

There is a Travelodge in Staines
No parking - you'd have to lose your car in a side street
about 9 miles to Lego

Also Thames Lodge Hotel which has rooms right on the river at Staines (with parking)

Runnymede Hotel Egham - right on the river

But I am not sure if anything other than Travelodge/ Premier Inn etc would be what you call 'reasonable price'

I would have thought pretty much anything in Windsor or Eton would be fairly expensive
(room just for 2 at the Castle Hotel Windsor about £160 )

Eton

I've recently learned that an old adversary now has a place in Eton High St; very well positioned.

I could probably arrange some kind of deal, although I must confess that I was very disappointed when his business partner offered to get her puppies out; they turned out to be a couple of baby dogs.

I'll get in touch and see what we could do, when were you thinking of going?

Try the Copthorne in Slough remember seeing special offer breaks to legoland the last time we stayed there, only 10 mins from Legoland

Chill

We took the kids to Legoland at Easter and stayed in the Crowne Plaza at Marlow. Its about 30mins drive from Legoland but you are out of the Heathrow flight path and away from the traveller hotels in Slough etc. It is a bit off the main road, situated at the end of an industrial estate but in my opinion this was better for the kids safety as there was no roads adjacent. The hotel has a good pool with hot tubs etc. Pool is essential for my kids, they won't stay in a hotel without one. Its a short drive to Marlow town centre I think 4-5 mins. Had a look at the Complete Angler but not as suitable for kids. The Crowne Plaza seems more like a business hotel but as it was Easter it was mostly families. The main reason we stayed was that we got a good deal through the Legoland website for entry and accomodation.

When are you going?, I have a seaon ticket there and can give you a few pointers before you go that is of course if you have not been before?

Pleanty of places to stay none of which are right on the doorstep (well for us townies anyhow).

If you want a decent town then Windsor is of course the first choice as you will have a choice of restaurants and its right on the Thames also Liz lives there. But plenty of other towns nearish that wil ahve accommodation if its just a bed you are looking for.
