Looking for suggestions for an hotel or apartment in Corfu town or a short taxi ride away, Gouvia, Kontokali for just one and a half nights Sunday 5 Oct. Preferably with the pool still open and with a cracking good restaurant nearby for the last-night-of-the-season bash. 3 adults, mom, dad and son. Flying out of Corfu late Monday night so somewhere we can laze about all of Monday would be ideal.

Go with above but definitely eat at the Bistro Boileau if you can. Fantastic steaks and great service. See you when you get back?

I just don't get the Telesilla recommendations - we stayed there the first time we went to Corfu to check out the marina and it is clean, friendly and close to the marina. But it's also a low-budget soulless concrete building on a busy dual carriageway. Perhaps you notice that a bit less when the bars and (presumably) restaurant/breakfast areas are open which wasn't the case at the end of October.

I think that's a fair view of the place, in October.
However, when it's in Season, it's a totally different place. Full mostly, of return customers, all out for a good holiday in a place they all know, looked after by an amazing team.
In fact, that's the main attraction, the 'Team'. They really care for the customers, they are helpful, fun, enthusiastic that you're enjoying yourself and everything's ok.
I've never stayed anywhere like it, which is why I still go there, even though I've a house on the island.
Regards,

A complete contrast would be the Hotel Corfu Palace ,stayed on a number of occasions and its about 20 mins walk from airport .Pool is fabulous ,all rooms have sea view over the bay looking towards Mainland .The breakfasts are to die for with massive choice .We have paid 75 euro for a night here in October including breakfast so if your looking for nice big rooms five mins walk from Liston in Corfu town it could be worth a look.

Very different in season and from the back. Almost everywhere in Kontokali is lifeless by the end of October. Indeed many tavernas sre closed by then. As Cariadco says delightful family that run it and people go back year after year. My grandchilden have it as top of their list for holiday places.

I'm sure you are right - it's just that there seemed to be so many prettier places in Kontokali, even if deserted. Probably unfairly this year we have only left the marina when going to and from the airport when visiting the boat. We thought of leaving the marina complex to eat in Kontokali last night but on-off rain kept us in. Perhaps we ought to poke our heads out of the marina gate in season next year and see what it can be like.

You have missed a lot. The old main street buzzes in the evening, either right or left of the gates to the marina. everybody has their favourite taverna or bar, but you can't really go wrong with any of them. Takis, Harrys, Telesilla and Beer Bucket were our haunts when we kept our boat there, and the grandchildren liked Georges because there was usually a litter of kittens in the garden.

We use the Pyrros for several reasons. It's cheaper; the rooms are bigger; It's quieter; you can park off the road; when working on the boat in the winter it is open whereas the Telesilla shuts and it is much nearer to the working boatyard via the middle gate. Top of the road at the side of the new hospital. Call Anton on 0030 26610 91206. No pool but for the months when you want one, the marina's is open. Approx €23 a double room B&B off season €32 peak.

We love and regularly frequent the Telesilla though.
