After several hours of motoring our new Bav 30 we always have a tank full of scalding hot water, but if putting the engine on in the morning for half an hour the water will not even get luke warm.

Previously when chartering a 2000 vintage Bav 34, half an hour was adequate for a tank of hot water.

Is it that at tick over this engine just doesn't generate any heat?

hiya kim,

we've ordered our boat, a bav 33, woohoo, cant wait to pick it up.
very similar spec to yours but i did think you could warm water up using shore power??? maybe i read that bit wrong.
someone told me not to leave engine ticking over anyway, best to give it a few revs, maybe that'll get you enough for a shower.
hope all is going well with the boat, good luck,
Andy

yes, doesnt generate enough heat.
Very simplistically your engine produces, like a fire, more heat the more fuel you put into it.
When it is working hard you are putting more fuel into it to produce the horsepower you need, more fuel = more heat.
If you are tied up, put it into gear and run it at about 1500 - 2000 rpm, it wont do any harm and in fact I am an advocate of making the donk work rather than let it languish doing nowt!!

Indeed you can and very effective it is too, but when on an anchorage overnight and you used the last of the hot water to wash the dishes up at night, you want some hot water in the morning.

Where are you collecting your boat from and when?

Just not enough to open the thermostat.
