The hot water cylinder on my Fairline Carrera leaks around the immersion heater joint and so needs replacing.

I'm no plumber, so my question is what type of cylinder do I need, vented or un-vented? Its the usual pumped water system. Also can anyone recommend a make/supplier?

I use the Newark Copper Cylinder Co Ltd for all our domestic cylinders. They are very competive in price and also will make any size that is required. They also make marine cylinders. Maybe worth a call.

Alternatively you could always take the immersion heater out and re-make the joint. There is normally a fibre washer under the head which probably needs replacing.

is it leaking from where the immersion heater screw into the fitting on the cylinder, or between the fitting and the copper wall?

The first should be easy to fix, the second is harder, but maybe possible.

If you want to just replace with an off the shelf unit then try Penguin Engineering or ASAP supplies.
