I’m fitting a new seal to the sea water pump on my Yanmar 3GM30F. The hose on the inlet side of pump is a very sloppy fit. It’s the usual reinforced clear pipe with a metal spiral (the metal spiral removed from last inch of so to enable hose clamp to constrict pipe).

The hose barbs/spigots(?) are 17mm diameter. In my limited experience hose ID is usually imperial. 1/2” pipe is too small ( l tried some) and the current pipe, which I’m pretty sure is 3/4” is too big. Anyone know if there is an intermediate size, preferably of the spiral reinforced variety?

Well, a bit of googling has found some “pvc braided clear hose” readily available in 16mm ID. Not anti-kink (no metal spiral). I think I’d rather this than the horrible bodge of a 19mm hose on a 17mm Barb with a hose clip crushing pipe until it seals.

I would advise you to use silicon rubber hose instead of that - granted it is more expensive but is superior stuff - search for silicone rubber radiator hoses quite a few suppliers out there one such is

I posted about this issue two years ago. Probably to do with where the site is hosted.

Not sure why you would want silicone rubber hose on a seawater pump inlet. I had wire reinforced pvc hose on mine for at least 20 years without a problem. I find that using clear hose in this duty can be useful.
The problem I’m having is finding a 5/8” or 17mm-ish wire reinforced pvc hose, as per my OP. I’m sure they exist, just hard to find.
