Hi again - my horseshoe lifebuoys need replacing, showing the effects of aging in the sun badly (much like myself). The old ones are the plastimo type with external covering of a plastic type fabric. Whilst I don't want to appear critical of these it strikes me that they are less hardy than the solid polywhatever ones. My search has only revealed the hard rings so far and so I was wondering whether any of you may know a source for similar items in the horseshoe form?

Only horseshoe onees I have ever seen, are soft and floppy, they need to be, so you can put them around yourself, hard ones wouldnt allow this. Thought about recovering them? with waterproof acrylic canvas perhaps?

No Thanks - not after the treatment I received from them regarding a failure of one of their lifejackets.

Recovering not an option unfortunately since the offending items found their way to a skip. Might just have to bite the bullet and purchase the floppy jobs after all.....

Hi Courageous!

Why not get a new zipped cover (two colours available I beleive), available from Jimmy Green Marine. Good value - I fitted one last year to one of my lifebuoys whose cover had 'seen service!!'

Just a thought and a lot cheaper..

In future stow them away when not in use , it only takes seconds to refit. Doing this mine have lasted almost ten years!!! (By 'not in use' I mean when you are away from the boat)
