Horrific boating crash on Sydney Harbour - Five/six dead

In a group of 14 youngsters, a few will have been ringleaders, who may or may not be of the type you describe. Most, I suggest, will have been little more than 'hangers on' - perhaps not comfortable with the way things developed but not sufficiently self-confident to disengage.

I wonder if you would describe this group as you have if one of your children (if you have any) had been involved as a 'hanger on'.

You're talking to somebody who took his son to the Police for posession of Marijuana. I was proud of that...

I would describe them all as 'Scum'

Having been shafted throughout my whole life by people who think they are above the law to this degree, I want nothing to do with these types. Lifes too short to entertain lowlife, whatever kind things you invent, or nice politically correct descriptions you can think of for them.

The reason this country is in such a state is that for decades we have tolerated appalling behaviour, and not done anything about it.

Just don't blame me, while you're making excuses for them huh?

Well - I suppose it must be nice to be able to see things in such 'black and white' terms.

[edit]

You must have a very strong sense of right and wrong. As a matter of interest, what makes you so sure that what you see as 'right' is right (to the exclusion of everyone else)? Is it your strength of conviction? In which case, if I have an equal strength of conviction, but my view of 'right' is not quite the same as yours, does that make me 'right' as well? Or makes you 'wrong'? Or both of us a bit 'right' and a bit 'wrong'?

Darwinism in its purest form. No moral opinion on this one.

Compare that to the accident in germany last week, where a 5m cuddy capsized in 1,5 meters depth. 3 dead and 8 survivors. The report mentioned that the authorities have as far no clue to the cause of the accident.

Haven't we all done crazy things and its been a case of "there but for the Grace of God go I"?

[/ QUOTE ]

My thoughts exactly ,i shudder to think of some of the exploits I got up to until well past my teenage years.

Some people seem to only see bad in others and conveniently overlook their own acts of stupidness.

Eleven on a 5m cuddy.

I am speechless at these people who overload boats.

There was a four seater speed boat in Port Dinorwic last year and they managed to get four adults and four children in it. Luckily, none were wearing lifejackets or they would have had to leave one of the kids on the pontoon, for the lack of room.

Anyway, they eventually solved the overcrowding problem by putting two girls on the bow with their legs over the edge, in a 'not very clever in a marina', sort of way.

They wanted kicks didn't they? Well the ignorant little cretins got a lifetimes worth. Perhaps they should have stuck to getting ratfaced and making everybodies life a misery pissing in shop doorways, waking everybody up on the way home each night, drink driving and smoking weed.

I'll bet most of them did you know. Nicking a boat is far worse, doing it after a night drinking and against the advice of boat savvy people is way beyond 'naughtiness' isn't it?

I have nothing but contempt for these creatures. they are everything bad about modern society.

[/ QUOTE ]

I have to wonder if you would want their parents to hear/see your remarks? I do not condone what these young people did, but I would suspect that only one or two realized that they were taking the boat without permission. They made no bones about it, and obviously were not trying to hide anything. It might be that the boat owner had told the on youth that he could borrow the boat any time, not thinking he had to put caveats on his permission. Or it could have been a vague statement, like "Sure thing, you can borrow it some time." Then when he heard about what happened, he said he had not given permission because of the threat of lawsuits.

Having sympathy for the departed, does not mean condoning the act. But the punishment should not exceed the severity of the act.

Any idea why he was using weed? Do you think he might have gone along with it to keep face with his mates, a bit like going out on a boat after a night on the pop? Or do you think there may be another reason?

No Regrets,
I cannot quite belive what I have been reading here, and your ridiculous comments on this tragedy, its as if you are glad this has happened, I can see a sadistic grin on your face as I read, it must vindicate your view of the youth of today.

Reading the news reports, this is nothing but a tragedy and I really feel nothing but sorry for your world view to bring such spite to a public forum for all to read.

You can write want you want, of course, I read here all the time and I only post this to show my disgust for your lack of respect for the value of the lives of others.

Please dont reply to this, I really am not interested in hearing any more about how "Death was too good for these ignorant cretins".

Get out more, the world is not such a bad place.

Houghn, he was selling the stuff. He was warned exactly what would happen, and ignored me.

I then had no choice, or he would have carte blanche to continue.

Justin '2 posts' Banks, carry on in your pathetic little world of acceptance. Your post history mirrors your contribution to society by the looks of it. It's all fine to you, isn't it?

I'm not fooled. Nor was Darwin....

Suggesting I'm grinning about it is pure fantasy on your behalf, like your own ideals.

Suppose an angry Father of one of your sons customers shot your son dead. Would you have agreed that was fair ?

I wouldn't blame them Graham. I would be tempted, if the position was reversed.

In the old days, I would have been able to kick crap out of him.

Now, in the world run by people like 2 posts Banks, no chance. Send 'em on a Holiday to Tenerife by all means, but don't punish them...

Im all for harsh sentences for criminals but cant understand anyone who seems pleased that a group of young people lost their lives in a stupid prank even if a crime was committed (it doesnt seem clear that one was.).

I used to use my Mobile until it became illegal.

I don't speed, hence current membership of IAM and RoSPA with appropriate advanced driving qualifications. The Discovery fuel consumption helps too.

I support a zero tolerance on litter too.

None of those are quite the same as nicking a boat, and drubbing it around, overladen and pissed though.

The next person who accuses me of grinning about it, or whatever will be seriously abused, by the way. It's not funny at all, as some INNOCENT person could have been hurt.

By INNOCENT I mean not involved in that gross act of multiple foolishness.

FFS look at the fact chaps /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Nobody is arguing that it was an act of foolishness.

However, the consequences of that foolishness are greater than any punishment that might have been meted out, so in no way did they "get what they deserved".

What the passengers deserved was a clip round the ear, plus being grounded for a couple of months. Not to be killed.
