He should have shot out the 'frenchise' rigging with 'ball and chain' on the up roll, disabling her.
Raked her stern with 'ball' to open her up and then with 'grapeshot' to 'do' with the crew along the gun decks. "They dont like it up'm Captain Manning"
If I remember any return broadside was received with the words "For what we are about to receive....."
Just shown Hornblower 1 over here over Christmas. How awaiting 2.

The night they show Hornblower 2 would be a good one to go to the pub.

The best bit in it is the wedding. The rest is just dross.
