Hopeless romantic or nautical stalker ?

I feel sorry for the bloke, he needs help not locking up...

16' 'yacht' around Biscay ?! If so he deserves a medal !

The lady concerned needs to be and feel safe though.

It gives a good insight into the mind of a stalker. With that degree of obsession, how do you stop them? If he were a British national she'd have a real problem.

Indeed - 'tho like Seajet I feel a little sorry for him - he clearly needs help.

In an earlier age this sort of behaviour would have been seen as romantic; witness the song "On the street where you live" in My Fair Lady. These days Freddie Eynsford Hill (who sings it) would have had a restraining order slapped on him.

The Proclaimers?

"But I would sail 500 miles
And I would sail 500 more
Just to be that man who sailed a thousand miles to get arrested at your door and then deported..."

How does this affect anybody doing a Shane Acton & trying to sail around the World?

Presumably Shane Acton had a passport?

Not exactly the land of the free are we?

Having to clear into a foreign country is hardly a new thing. I've just been re-reading "We Didn't Mean to Go to Sea", and that has the children handing over ship's papers and dealing with customs both in Vlissingen and on return to Shotley.

Reading through this and some of the news articles...

I crossed paths with a tiny boat flying the Turkish flag when sailing between Formentera and San Antonio, Ibiza on July 17th. He was heading west and stand on, cant remember whether I had to alter or not but we passed within 100 yds. We shared a wave so I reckon I've almost met our mad Turkish romantic. Thought the boat a bit small to be heading where he was pointing at the time, which is why it stuck in my mind
