you miss the point i was making, and in fact your reply only reinforces what i have said, you do it all the time. You ask a question and then lecture everyone when they attempt to answer with a long technical "rant". Why ask for help and then rebut the answers? Perhaps you are doing it to prove how superior your knowledge is to everyone else?
40 years old may be my knowledge but it is just as relevant today as it was then, the basic physics never changes and I can still attend to problems under my boat with a safe, simple well tested technology that i feel comfortable with.

Aside from the digs at me your post was very light on technical content and what little there was, was nearly forty years out of date (smelly petrol hookah systems you'd played with years ago etc., your trusty old 72 Cu ft cylinder and the two hose regulator of your youth, etc.) if you remember? All utterly irrelevant to the question and the technology, and hopelessly out of date.

Right then, let's see if we can salvage something from your contribution as you seem so eager to inform. What point were you making? If you could try to keep your reply to hookas and diving and leave out gibes at me, it might be easier to separate the wheat from the chaff. If there is any wheat, of course.
 
exactly, round and round the houses, exotic research, argument, why not just get the bog std bottle and reg, get a pony bottle, decant from the big one so dont need to go to the dive shop so much, tried and tested, get on with it, only trouble is he wouldnt be able to talk at people then!!

[/ QUOTE ]I explained why that isn't convenient much earlier in the thread so there is no point in repeating it here. Several others have said the same thing and around six people have PMd me to ask me for further details of which equipment I decide on, I suppose they don't want to be dragged into this BSAC 'hookas are bad for you' nonsense.

Anyway, if you have some technical input to make on hookas then I'd be grateful for your input but we don't need any generalisations, I'm sure they have all been said by now!

I thought for quite a while that he was actually looking for a "Hooker 12 yrs experience for muffin diving".

One of those would not give him time to go round and round the houses and do exotic research, but would knock the superciliousness out of him and make him pay with no time for deathly analysis along the way /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif.
 
I'm getting to the decision making stage now so would those who have PMd me (and others) who are still interested, make contact either by PM or the link below? It is possible that a manufacturer will consider a discount for us if we all order within a certain time period. I want to get my order in while the GBP/USD is still nice and high, it will fall soon.

I shan't go into any other details here as I am bored with going back over the SCUBA vs hookah issue for the umpteenth time. If a small group of us would like further discussion, let's take it to emails?
 
OK, thanks for getting in touch, those who have, I have now finalised my choice - the kit that I posted at the start of this thread

I've looked in great detail at the competition and the possibility of constructing from components. There are cheaper kits but they don't do as much (shorter hoses and lower-powered compressors) and you will save money by buying components BUT some of the components are safety critical. I have had an excellent response from the US supplier and feel confident that he will support the product. I am prepared to pay more for the peace of mind and convenience.

They are prepared to consider a discount for a group-related booking (individual orders but linked by association with this thread) but the discount would be quantity related.

So this is a final call for anyone wishing to express an interest, please either PM me or use the link below. I will copy the final information to those who have already emailed me, later today.

We are seeing a small dollar rally at the moment but I think that come January the GBP will start a major correction back to $1.70 or $1.80, so if you are in GBP or EUR now is probably a good time to buy. Mind you, currencies are fickle so DYOR!!
 
Carlindo, one of my crew last year was a retired commercial diver (rigs). We were in Brazil and a lot of bottom scrubbing in marinas was done using a standard Draper type compressor (didn't get capacity, as I already have a bigger one aboard, but the one I saw in use was about 18" long). My crew told me this was fine, BUT - change the oil in the compressor to mineral (not synthetic) and use an in-line charcoal or activated carbon filter. Standard reinforced water clear water piping (as you would use in your galley) was used for delivery, with a simple mouthpiece. I'll make one for myself when I get round to it....
