Has anyone experience of Hood 810 ld endless line jib furling gear and can they be used as reefing gear. The gear is strongly made but has a toothed drum instead of a roller drum. The remaining parts are identical to any other jib furling gear. John Lilley

This sounds similar to the Sailspar reefing gear - with an endless reefing rope and secured thro' a clutch. Not familiar with the Hood version - mine is on a 27' cruiser.

so what exactly is the difference between furling and/or reefing gear...how do they differ in physical practical terms....

John I looked well into this as I have a Hood Gemini foil. They are indeed reefing systems. 'furling' is just an American translation, go to
