Hoping to visit Honfleur before the winter sets in, anything we should know about.

I've searched the forums and in 2002 it would seem the toilets were a problem and the speed of the water flow and the fishing boats.

Anybody got anything to add for 2003?

We were there in June and loved it. Toilets /showers were a short walk from the harbour, restricted in numbers but OK and clean.

No prob with fishing boats or tidal flow at Springs, just take care in the lock which has floating bollards you may need to lasso. Just be prepared. We could not attempt lock at low water (Draught 1.6 m) but you may be OK, just don't believe the Yacht Club which says the channel is dredged to 1m below chart datum.

Off season should be fine.

Lovely place to visit but its about 100 miles of open sea passage so make sure you've got a good settled spell of weather as can be very changeable at this time of year. Got caught out myself going to Honfleur in September making the return trip in what turned out to be an unforecast F6-7. The other problem is that you dont feel the strength of the wind in Honfleur itself so be prepared to divert to, say, Le Havre, if the sea conditions are looking boisterous once you get into the Seine estuary

We went to Honfleur a couple of weeks ago. Beautiful place. Obeyed pilot book instructions to keep just north of main channel up the estuary. Timed arrival for freeflow through the lock. No problem. Short wait for the bridge to open. Not much in the way of mooring posts by the bridge though. (Handy fire hydrant once all the tourists could be moved.) Very busy time. Rafts were 9 - 10 wide. If you're on the outside be prepared to move for others leaving, if on the inside be prepared for crew walking over your foredeck at all hours. My fault for visiting early August. Be ready for the bridge opening when leaving. Left in very heavy fog. Crept to Le Havre on GPS and radar. (Very impressed with Le Havre. Better than I expected.)Should be OK now that weather system has passed.
Having said all that I'd go back any time. Probably a little quieter now. Best time to go! Good food, wine etc. Have fun. It's a great place.

Thanks - thats what I like about this forum, you will always find someone out there who's got the t-shirt!

Just got to hope for a nice September now.

I'll let you know if we make it.

Keep a good eye out for floating debris in mid channel! twice recently, we had to return to Brighton with rubbish related problems.
Have a safe trip, its well worth the visit.

That would be a silly thing to do - it was bad enough bringing it back from Pevensey. My ribs took about six weeks to heal!

Not sure who were going with yet it will either a Cat or Targa.
