Our first boat, our first collision.

Other guy on port got hit by a gust as he was trying to bear off, and as much as I tried couldn't avoid the collision. Luckily nobody got hurt. Boats got a crack in the hull and fix is going to take a while.

Problem. Getting married on Friday and we were taking the boat to the west coast for the honeymoon. Other friends have offered us use of there boats but it would be frustrating being out there on another boat.

Possible solution. We are trying to surf the web to find somewhere warm to charter a boat and get away from it all. As this is about as last minute as it comes and we haven't prepared for this, has anybody got any suggestions about where is good at this time of year. Its just going to be the two of us and we would like to bare boat it.

If all else fails can I borrow a tent?

If you are still on speaking terms with the other party, try suggesting he eases the main next time he tries to bear away in a gust!!

Sorry about the collision and the honeymoon.

I am trying to resist all plays on the word 'frustrating' in the same paragraph as honeymoon...

I appreciate the problem of him trying to bear away only to have the boat round up. Saw it a year or two back with a new sailor he hit a huge power boat on a swing mooring. I know with my boat when hard pressed it needs to have the jib and main dumped to go behind without rounding up . It is far safer to tack away. Sorry about the spoiled honeymoon good luck for the future just remember at all times make her captain. regards will
