Thinking of getting a 20Hp Honda outboard , remotes and power tilt to replace my 25HP Tohatsu 2 stroke. The tohatsu has been excellent but is too noisy for extended use on a cruising catamaran and fuel use is higher than a 4 stroke. The Honda engine sounds good, 12A alternator, power tilt/trim, 2.08 gear ratio, 4 blade prop and electronic ignition. Only downside is that unlike newer Tohatsu 4 strokers is not fuel injection. The shaft length of the Honda long at 22.5" may be better for me than the ultra long 25 Tohatsu. Tohatsu do not do the power tilt in 20Hp or the ultra long shaft and a 20" shaft would i think be a little short or I would definitely stick with Tohatsu.

I would be pleased to hear any comments about the new Honda engine range either positive or negative as I know nothing about Honda Outboards, or other makes that are thought to be better with the right shaft length and power tilt, except Yamaha where the prices seem silly.

I would not worry about the fact that the Honda has carbs rather than fuel injection, I consider this a bonus as it can be owner serviced with ease.
I have used a Honda 25 for four years (3 cylinder as opposed to the 2 cylinder 20 hp) It has been completely reliable, quiet and efficient.
The only advice I would give is, do not leave fuel in the carbs over winter or when the engine is not used for weeks. The engines are lean burn, the jets can become blocked with gunge, they are easy to drain as each carb has a drain screw at the bottom of the the bowl.
One thing though, the Honda will be heavier than the Tohatsu 2 stroke.
