All the sales literature describes this engine as lightweight. The spec says it's 27.5kg. I find it quite difficult to lift/manhandle on my own. Is it just me?

I agree. 27.5 is not so difficult to simply carry along the quay but try holding it with one hand to pass it over to another person (SWMBO!) whilst holding onto the dinghy with the other hand and things are suddenly much harder.

I have "downgraded" from 5HP to 2.5HP for this very reason. The tender is slower and not able to get up "on the plane" but handling with one hand whilst passing to SWMBO also using one hand is now a drama-free exercise. :)

Not exceptionally heavy but definitely not light weight

According to the 1984 brochure my Evinrude 6 hp yachtwin weighed 27.4 kg but the trouble with outboards is that they slowly get heavier and heavier. My 'rude is now so heavy that I can barely lift it!

Struggled to get into the test tank this morning after fitting a new pump impeller. Will probably have to get someone to help lift it onto the bracket before I launch the boat.

I know what you are feeling VicS

I had to lift our 6 Hp Johnson 2T at 24 kg on and off the dinghy and onto the stern rail 3 times this weekend.
It is definitely going on e bay as I will use our lightweight 4 hp Johnson 2T for the rest of the season.
So I wont be able to do 20 knots but 4 hp will still get our 2.8 meter flubber on the plane two up with all the gear. I still believe the 4 HP is the lightest 4 HP on the market.

If you want a lightweight what about this ?

But I dont think it is 4hp!

Oh perhaps not for long
"Most of parts are made of aluminum, but still, it is not recommended use in salt water"

With the same dilemma we bought a Torqueedo 1003 a couple of seasons ago for our 3m rib, but left the Honda 5hp for the times when conditions or Torqueedo battery charge were an issue. We haven't even started the Honda since and will probably give it away this year.

Three very light pieces that clip straight together and no petrol to carry. Not the cheapest option but works very well for us.

Yes I'm going to need help getting it onto the welĺ mounting and don't intend to lift it off till September. I've got a Honda 2.3 for my tender but usually find its simpler to use the oars.
