Not any more. I've just had mine replaced with stainless by the very helpful Steve66 at very reasonable price.
This is the main fault with this excellent little engine.

It seems ridiculous that manufacturers fit mild steel parts to outboards. The Suzuki DF2.5 has a much better reputation that the Honda for using stainless steel, however there are even 3 fittings on the Suzuki which are mild steel and I could see the rust developing after just 12 months. I have now plastered these fittings with grease (they're under the cowling so not visible!) but it would be good to replace these with SS versions one day.

It took me most of the day and messed up three socket to get mine off my old Honda , I also replace them with SS bolts .
I notices some weeks back a new Honda coming out of the box and the first job the owner did was to take out all the mild steel bolts and replace them with SS , wise man .

If you are going to replace your mild steel fasteners make sure you apply plenty of copper grease.

I have just got one of these. At the moment it is still in the box. Which bolts is it recommended to replace with SS?

Ditto. I don't suppose Richard (AKA ghostlymoron) could make it obvious in the picture which bolts he's replaced (perhaps by circling them) and whether or not they are replaced in the picture. Thx

That's something I need to get around to for my 17 year old Honda 2hp.

Is there a specific pack of smokes screws that is available and if not can you advise the sizes that are required as the engine is kept on the boat?

Thanks

I too would be interested in the SS spec of fittings for replacement. Also, the lever which should hold up the engine/prop housing when raised has rusted/seized. Has anyone experienced/solved this one?
Thanks

I was once told never to use copper grease in aluminium alloy because it accelerates corrosion, mind you this was in relation to flameproof boxes offshore, not outboard engines.

It's an old wives tale ..... copper grease is fine for alu or anything else metallic. You can buy aluminium grease as an alternative which has slightly different properties but it seems more like a cosmetic difference to me. Either are much better in any circumstances than nothing. :)

Nice engine. I haven't yet seen any of the new cowl models but looking at yours they seem identical so I doubt they have changed. If your thinking of changing the fasteners now is the time to do it whilst they are in good condition

=UK-WOOZY;5730455]I got myself a 2016 version of the 2.3 last night

do you think Honda will have improved the bolts
used?
