After replacing my Honda 2.3 with a Torqeedo I went to show Honda to a buyer and the bloody thing wouldn’t start. There is no spark. I’ve replaced spark plug, checked kill switch, and tried a different coil from eBay that seller said came from a running outboard with clutch issues.

Anyone know what else it might be? Is there a cdi unit tucked away somewhere?

God I love my electric outboard!

IIRC the Honda ignition shorts the LT side to earth to stop it.

A common problem is a wiring fault giving a constant earth.

If there is a black/white or black/yellow wire near the coil or cdi box try disconnecting it there. It can be tested for earth at that junction too.

Good luck.

Let's hopè you get no issues with it.
I Was thinkingf buy one but there been so many bad reports about them going wrong and the hassle of getting them repair
I decided to stick to engine at less I can repair them myself

Its a TCI unit and they very rarely break down. The spark from a TCI shouldnt be compared to a magneto ignition. The spark on these are quite faint. Disconnect the bullet stop switch connector and spin the flywheel with a drill with the plug out, connected to the lead and grounded onto the engine

Just thought I would answer my own question in case anyone else searches this. This turned out to be that the coil assembly had moved away from the flywheel by a few mm, and as a result the flywheel mounted magnet wasn’t creating a spark. Nice easy fix. .2mm Feeler gauge and jobs a goodun.

Just checked he gap on mine and found it to be quite large 30+ what is the actual factory setting? I cant seem to find it anywhere
