Need to service my Bf 75 (1978-87 model), early one with contact breakers.
I know Clymer do a workshop manual but don't know if it covers the engines with points.
Anyone with info of settings, websites, scans of manuals etc would be a great help to a budget sailor.

Regards, David.

Send me a PM with your e-mail, and I will send you the Volvo Penta Saildrive MB2A-50S Workshop manual. Its a BF 7.5 without the top cover, and a rubber doughnut. It has all the settings. I have the later electronic setup for it which bolts straight on.
I also have a spare few bits and pieces like alternator, pull ring and prop/spinner, lower leg gearbox if you want them. All cheap.

Sold the boat so no longer need them. Was getting round to E-Baying the lot.

Cheers

Jim

I have a B75 K3 still in regular service. This is a very similar engine. The manual states twelve to sixteen thousanths of an inch. In practice I use a buzzer and battery to set the points on the firing mark as this is far more accurate.

Spares can be obtained from:-

In the Seloc manual it also uses the point of opening (using a bulb) for determining the timing. However that doesn't set the dwell, which is (as I understand it) as important, so a gap setting would be needed as well.
(Unless of course there is no timing advance possible, other than by adjusting the gap)

The bulb system is just the same as using the buzzer, it detects the exact point that the points open thereby producing the spark. I have found that this is the most accurate method of setting this particular engine. I have a dwell angle meter which is now redundant for the cars I used to run. This will not work on this engine.

Regards.

Alan.

Hi, I am in desperate need for a part for my lower unit for my mid 80's Honda 7.5 HP. I need to replace the round collar that goes over the propeller shaft and bolts to the lower unit with 2 bolts. Any possible help? Thanks, Dennis Noordam
