I have a problem when starting the engine. As the choke needs to be out to start and the throttle turned to start position, when it starts the revs are higher than tickover which engages the automatic clutch. so unless you have a good grip on something solid your are off on your travels, ready or not. Has anyone found a way to start the engine without engaging the drive? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

No, just have to be very quick with the wrist movements (oooo Matron), I usually end up spinning around.....

My 2hp Honda of 1995 vintage has no clutch(permanently in gear) so the starting procedure can be fun!

However it seldom needs choke and I ease the throttle to just before the start position which keeps the lurching start to a modest proportions

There is also the problem of losing drive just when you want to manoeuvre slowly alongside. The earlier model without the centrifugal clutch was definitely better. Sadly the one I had is at the bottom of the Medway just off the Admiralty pier, - don't ask!

At least it starts. Mine 2 hp will start at first pull, run for 2-3 seconds, then stop, and then not fire again until left for a day. Anybody got any idea what is wrong? Have checked the obvious, petrol in tank (fresh), petrol in float chamber (comes out of the drain screw), plug not fouled. Any help appreciated.

Good, innit? Mine also gives you the choice between ramming wherever you are going or stopping two feet short. Nothing else will do.

Re: Stork III

SO you have a spark, fuel, air and compression which are the prerequisites. But after a few seconds one of these is gone (or is no longer at the right time). Unlikely to be the spark - electrics pretty simple and unless it is a loose connection running for a few seconds shouldn't give any reason to develop electical fault. Also unlikely to be compression.

Fuel, you say you have new fuel in the tank - had the old stuff been sitting in it a while? could it have gummed/varnished up something in the carb? Stupid question time is the air vent (on the cap) open (and I assume the fuel cut off is open too).

If its not "fuel" then it must be air - unless something is blocked then this would point to the mix being wrong. Since it starts cold then cuts out and won't restart until its cold again it does sound like the choke is not opperating correctly - first thing to check is that the "switch/button" thing is actually working all the other mechanical bits and moving something at the carb. After that you are on to checking mixtures/settings etc.

Or undone the small breather cap on the petrol tank cap /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Done that one, rowed back to boat and then realised why it had stalled /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Re: Stork III

Thanks for the comments.

Yes air vent open.
Yes fuel tap on.
Yes fuel been in there a while?
Yes checked choke operable, well it moves with the lever.
Did pick up some mighty big spiders in Holland this summer, Spiders nest in the air intake?
Off to Seamark Nunn tomorrow, Its only money.
