Back home I had a neighbour whose position on this was: Why spend 50 grand on a boat and then deny your wife the price of an air ticket to come and join you once you've arrived?

Exactly the arrangement to which my wife and I arrived.

£50K is an excessive amount to spend on a boat -all those with boats in that bracket are so neurotic about it getting damaged, dirty or depreciated they don't seem to go anywhere it it.

Well it was actually £30k when he said it. I was just allowing for inflation.

Complete nonsense. Only people who think it's a lot of money to spend on a boat would behave like that. Boats are for using.

Truth is travel is not for all. How many people have waited to retire to "live the dream" only to find it a nightmare.
We generally agree that liveaboard boating does require a certain lunacy element.
