Even with insurance paying out, I doubt many will not still suffer a major financial loss. I could not easily replace my boat for it's insured value, and I've pushed for the highest valuation I can get. There is also the sticky point as to the size of the commercial vessels on those pontoons. More than one boat owner suffering a loss has pointed a finger squarely at them for causing a domino effect in the pontoon breakup. How valid their claim is remains to be determined.
 
Sheesh that really is a mess and an incredible amout of damage; plus point is nobody was hurt. Time for the designers to check that the sea defences for the new marina would have coped with that.
 
 
Just been down to the marina and things are lookin more positive , lots of experts , environmental clean up works, looking better than two days ago, visits from the First Minister of Wales scheduled this week.
As is often the case with this type of disaster people soon look for someone to blame, cast aspurtions and are often opinionated without facts.
Interestingly the breakwater has also had a hole punched in it and the sea wall adjacent to the sailing club has taken a bit of a trouncing. A freak easterly caused this to a structure that has been in place since 1878 made out of chunks of Holyhead mountain.
It’s a terrible event to have happened to the boat owners, charter boys, and some of the local economy. Seems to me that everyone connected is doing everything in their power to help or alleviate the problems. We’re pleasure boaters and will be inconvenienced which is nothing compared to what some are suffering , we doff our caps to these people.
Maybe before negative comments are made we should bear in mind this could actually be due to a freak occurance.

It's a crying shame that our very own yachting press that is hosting this forum has not made a single mention of such a harrowing story for the boating community of North Wales.

Perhaps a snowflake fell in YBW towers car park last week and nobody has made it to work since!

Bruce that is not how I interpreted his personal comment. I think that as a local pleasure boat owner I will be inconvenienced whilst the Marina recovers. Thank goodness the yacht club is having all the moorings serviced by CHT. I hope a few are kept available for visitors and their launch service is fully operational. I have just seen a Felinheli training boat leave with the intention of stopping over at Holyhead tonight with a full crew.

I was refering to those that had lost boats and made negative comment. I believe they have a right to voice an opinion and it is not for some observer to come after the fact and take it upon themselves to be the moral compass and deny them the right.

I initially looked at your response, and thought of replying in a derogatory tone, but having looked at your comment, deduce you were actually being quite lenient with YBW.

I apologise for my thoughts. YBW are a bit of a sham all things considered :ambivalence:
 
I gave an actual account of the situation re the works being done on behalf of the birth holders. This was observed when my wife and I went down to volunteer on the evening of the event and the following day. Social media in this area is awash with the blame sayers , even some saying that if we’re rich enough to have a boat we don’t deserve sympathy, and what seems like a pre-emptive move to find someone to blame. My point is that it is too soon to start blaming people.
Surprisingly I have received private emails suggesting I am a leper. This is a forum which I was under the impression was a mechanism to pass on information , ideas and sometimes consequential opinions by enthusiasts from all walks and backgrounds.
Oh , incidentally We are not casual observers, we’re berth holders with an interest in seeing the marina functioning and safe
We have friends who have lost their boats and some who may lose their livelihood.
Further more if someone has a deep criticism of a post why not do it publicly , this is a forum isn’t it.
