My grandson showed aptitude and interest in dinghy sailing whilst on holiday in France.

He lives near Halifax and Hollingworth Lake Sailing Club is the nearest.

I have never had a reply to emails or telephone calls.

Anybody know if they still exist?

Has he tried ringing them, there is anumber on the WWW?

I used to sail at Horbury SC who have since moved to Pugneys Country Park, I don't know if they are still going. Wakefield is a fair trek from Halifax though.

Horbury had associations with Wintersett SC another Wakie one, and Penine SC over near Holmfirth.

The nearest sailing I can think of to Halifax is the Scout place at Reva : https://sites.google.com/site/wsscreva/

Edit, forget Reva it's miles away, brain fade.

I was there before Christmas, so am certain they are still up and running.

It is often a problem getting in touch with very small concerns, either no one is around, or everyone thinks someone else will deal with it. You may have to go along Sunday afternoon and try and nail one of the committee members.

You could also try Dovestone Reservoir near Oldham. Quite a bit further for you but a wonderful, unspoilt Pennine setting.

PS, forgot the link:

Hollingworth Lake has a very active Merlin Rocket class. You may like to post something on the Merlin web-site - someone is bound to get back to you. Better still pop along on the week-end. In my experience if you are starting off with youngsters its best to begin at a local club so that the travel is not a chore. Equally if a child is cold, tired and done for the day a short hop home is always a good thing :-)
