Holiday delivery trip?

I have bought a westsail 32 lying in Italy and plan to sail it non stop to Gib arriving there around June 7/8 and was planning to leave it for a couple of months before bringing it home to Scotland.Time as usual is a problem. I have considered a delivery crew but I wonder if there is somebody out there willing to bring it back?The yacht is fully equipped for ocean sailing and I would expect the yacht to be looked after as if it was your own.I would also expect you to cover all on board costs with the exception of yacht parts.You would need to have had offshore experience and be committed to the whole trip.If interested please PM me

After what happened to that poor chap who did a delivery trip as a favour, had a mishap and sank the boat, and is now being sued for £1/4 million by the insurers, I dont think you will get many takers?

All these negative replies,is our sport not about a bit of adventure and risk otherwise why would we do it? Insurance company seems happy enough with the idea.

It would seem that the idea is to get your yacht delivered for free. You are not even offering expenses such as food.
If you look at previous posts it cost some poor [--word removed--] a £1/4 million to do someones cheap move.
Idont think you will get many serious replies. Sorry to burst your bubble.

It is not negativity, it is reality.

A delivery skipper will charge in the region of US 3 dollars per mile and you are expecting someone with offshore experience to give up their time, maintain your boat at their expense and sail it against the Portuguese Trades, across Biscay and up to Scotland. That is not adventure and risk.

Good luck with the non stop to Gib. Hope you have big fuel tanks.

My copy of 'Ocean Passages - Gibraltar to English Channel' suggests that the optimum routing could well be to head west by south from Gib, and when half-way to Bermuda swing in an arc towards the North, holding this until picking up westerlies, then NE towards the Channel. Maybe 3500 miles, or more.....

What's your water capacity?

Well of course they are - they will not be out of pocket if theres a mishap. They just counterclaim against your delivery skipper.... /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Even if one were to do the trip for nothing (which I wouldn't) the least outlay to be expected would be 3 x air fares to Gib (skipper and 2 crew); all food - say 3 wks @ £30 pppwk; and all fuel and berthing charges.
And of course insurance....
ref bilbo - the last time I did this we headed NW from St Vincent and it was 2000 miles on the log before we got to the Solent - not quite 3500 but still enough !!
