Your joker valve has had it, probably. Easy fix, but make sure you pump out first!?

Could the tank be full and if not could the pipework be blocked ?
Or perhaps the pump needs to be serviced . If its a manual pump a new pump might not cost a lot more than the service kit.

My tank would ‘leak’ via the breather if it were full. The bit of the pump that needs servicing is the non return valve. You get one separately, in a service kit, or with a new pump. It’s open pipe surgery one way or another. Be prepared for a close encounter of the turd kind.

For anyone absolutely fascinated by this subject...........
A mystery solved.
The poo tank on my "new to me boat" was filling up with seawater while underway, this was pointed out to me by the broker and was left to me to sort.
On the journey home 8 hours with a bucket is not an ideal substitute for a proper working bog.
Before spending any money on getting in somebody who knew what they were doing........................
A forensic investigation revealed the following
The black water pump which empties the tank( via a valve in the hull) was tripping the power.
A new pump was considered but the price prompted other action.
The old pump was removed with considerable difficulty but came to bits with suprising ease.
The entire pump chamber was full of scale and crud preventing the piston from going up and down and empting tank.
A quick descaling ( big screwdriver ) removed all the scale in the pump chamber, both the joker valves were blocked open by loose scale.
All reassembled and refitted and everything now functions.
When underway if the hull valve was open, water was being forced into the poo exit pipe ,going straight past both the blocked open joker valves and filling the poo tank.
Anyone remember Haydn’s exploding toilet.

Great story, oldgit, and many congrats for shoehorning to many uses of the word ‘poo’ in your cautionary tale. A sense of humour is vital when dealing with such matters. My boat didn’t have a tank when we got her, by Royal Command, she does now.

In my experience, a holiday is not a holiday unless I have to deal with some bog related fix or upgrade.
