Holding tank size?

we used to recken on 1 gallon per person per day this kept us going for about a week sailing uk coast not many pumping out stations at the top end of uk

Like many boat owners in Spain without a holding tank, we carry a small PortaPotti, brand new in it's box and stashed in the forecabin. Hasn't been tested but the rumour has it that it will suffice in the case of an inspection!
I took out the 2nd head and fitted the porta potti there. Works a treat. I do the loo run every 3 days, works for us in the marina.

My 34 has 2 heads each with a 40L tank both retro fitted. I'd say it's more a question of what space you have for it without overly compromising your living/storage space or access to machinery or equipment. If it's possible I'd strongly recommend a location which facilitates gravity discharge.

Won't that raise the CoG?

Won't that raise the CoG?

Gravity is standard fitment on many new boats. Minimal effect on CoG as even full it is only 40kgs in this example - about the same weight as a 10 year old child and only just above the waterline. While it might have a small effect on stability if it is a big tank on an old lightweight boat (a sort of contradiction in terms) on a new boat its weight and location would already have been included in the design.
