Just started installing a holding tank and am looking for the skin fitting for the breather tube. Is there a special fitting or would a simple through hull do the trick?

Our boat already had rather a lot of through hull fittings just below the gunwale. Vent for fuel, two for water tanks, one hole for the bilge pump and one hole for the shower sump pump. We never use the shower so I decided to use this outlet rather than make another hole. In fact I just "teed" the pipes together just inside the hull so I still kept the shower pump. All seems to work.
I believe I still have the skin fitting (as photoed in previous post) spare, lying in the garage if you are interested.
Just ensure that the pipe run from the fitting loops tight under the deck to prevent water ingress when heeling.
At my wife's insistance I did fit the anti smell filter in the vent pipe, but experimentally did not fit the filter element in it. We have never smelt the tank so you might try and save here as well. Admittedly we use the tank generally just for overnights in marinas, but a holiday in Holland still produced no odours that we could detect. The filter element is also still in the garage.

I am not keen on drilling extra holes in my boat BUT I am less keen in Tee-ing with the shower outlet. It seems prudent to me to keep the holding tank and all its bacteria isolated.

From Tek Tanks, along with lots of other bits and pieces required for the job (including the custom tank)
However, the fitting is available from other suppliers, probably ASAP.
I have just measured the fitting and it will only be 30mm proud of the hull when fitted. The scary bit will be cutting a 48mm diam. hole in the hull.

Cheers,

Michael.
