Heat works for superglue, just avoid the fumes

I believe heat works with either, I guess I'd prefer whichever releases at a lower temperature.

Also not completely certain what you are trying to achieve but if you are asking how to hold the above then you can stick carpet tape to your faceplate and press the item onto it using a spacer and a rotating centre in the tailstock.

Superglue lets go when it gets hot too.

Well I successfully re-faced one pulley using 8 drops of superglue to hold it to the aluminium boss. Then I heated the the boss from below with a heat gun for about 10 minutes. A drop of water dropped onto the pulley was just starting to boil, so I lightly tapped the pulley with a hammer and it released.

Started the second one and my lathe packed up

You may or may not try this:

In clockmaking and watchmaking, glue is never used to attach a piece to a faceplate.

The time honoured method is to use shellac, which comes in flakes.

But the two faces have to be heated, not very much, but just enough for the shellac to melt.

It then becomes very soft, with the viscosity of butter or so. The plates are pressed and matched by centering.

When the work is complete the two parts are immersed in Methylated Spirits which is gently brought to the boil and it immediately softens the shellac.

If the Meths "flares up", then the heat is too high. It is cooled by removing the heat immediately, and if it persists, then it must be snuffed out by removing access to oxygen, like for example in a saucepan, the lid is immediately clamped on.

This whole job is being tackled in a way I would avoid. My method of machining any component like a pulley that has to run concentric with its bore is to put a piece of steel a bit larger in diameter than the pulley bore into the lathe chuck. Machine the steel to bore diameter leaving a shoulder clear of the chuck jaws, and do not remove it from the chuck. Centre drill the end for support. Fit the pulley onto it and secure it just as it will be secured when working, then machine it. If two pulleys need to be fitted together I would drill them for countersunk screws, which can be prevented from coming out by means of studlock on the threads.

Glue them together but put a pice of newspaper in between as well
A good slap with a hammer on the side causes the newsapaper to split then you just clean off the faces
