Have tried 1st option Vic, and as you said, it must have been a mistake on the wiring diagram in the workshop manual. The R/B wire from the alternator to the coolant warning lamp is a live 12v feed from the ignition switch, exactly as you said.

I also tried the coolant warning lamp circuit by shorting it out to earth from the sender, and that illuminated the lamp on the switch panel so that was ok as well.
As everything worked out ok with option 1, I didn’t feel the need to try option 2

Must say I find it strange that a Manufacturers Workshop Manual can be so lacking and unreliable especially when it comes to something as important as a wiring diagram!

I now have a fully functioning new alternator and Adverc charging system, along with a very comprehensive battery monitoring system and upgraded wiring for engine starting and isolation, re-organized fused distribution fuse board all fully fused and with the correct gauge wiring. " GREAT "

Along with all the new electric installations, I have also converted the old cool box, and built and installed a fridge/ freezer compartment with Danfos Compressor, so it’s been a long journey this winter, but thankfully now over.

Thanks everybody for all your input in the past months it has been much appreciated, and thanks once again Vic for all your help.

I have learnt loads about electrics and now have a far better knowledge of how my boats electrics now work, along with solving some problems in regards to refridgeration instalations.

Many thanks Philip
