Highly Recommended: Great site if you fancy giving the Eberspacher a service yourself

Yes, a fascinating site. I have been engrossed with their discription and pics of repairing the blower motor of a DIL. I did this, bearings and all, with my DIL 20+ years ago and it is still going strong (I disagree with replacing the mild-steel circlips though! ... they caused the seizure of mine in the first place....they seem to be just for positioning the pressed-on bearings and IMHO should be removed after positioning).

Maybe I haven't found it yet, but there doesn't seem any mention of what they use to decarbonise the combustion chamber? - often a question of much debate.

I used a tootbrush which got rid of most of the deposits followed up with 240 grit wet and dry wrapped around a file. No need to use chemicals

You can decoke it by running on parafin for half an hour.

+1

Parasene 4 litre bottle from B&Q, unplug fuel hose from tank, stick inside parasene bottle and run until it runs out, then reconnect fuel hose back to tank. No service for another year.

Thanks for the appreciative comments on the Eberspacher advice section on our site.
Incidentally the old links should still work but we have just taken advantage of the new .uk domains and changed the site name to letonkinoisvarnish.uk (removing the .co from the name)

Firstly the circlips should only be touching the non rotating inner part of the bearing so we cannot see how they caused your seizure.
Any extra details on this would be helpful, we are always learning about new failure reasons.
If the bearings are a tight fit on the shaft the circlips probably do nothing but we found our replacement bearings were a fairly easy push fit so might move along the shaft with vibration. Eberspacher obviously thought they were needed or they would not have fitted them.

Secondly we have recently added on the website details of the cleaning solution, remember chemical cleaners can be dangerous if not used correctly.
Paraffin or central heating oil (aka kerosene) as a fuel can clean many heaters, Derek highly recommends them.
Many heaters are permanently plumbed to the fuel tank so changing fuel is not easy.
Also if the heater is failing to start changing the fuel cannot help.
Mechanical cleaning sorts out many problems but cannot reach some parts of the burner.
