This is a PLA NtM out today. It will be included in tonights NtM update but for those not interested in those, they might be interested in this:

NOTICE TO MARINERS No.17 of 2015 - 21 September 2015 - Port of London Authority

HIGH ASTRONOMICAL TIDES

Mariners are advised that due to the natural 19 year astronomical cycle there will be a number of exceptionally high tides throughout the period of September 2015 to January 2016.

Mariners should also be aware that the increased tidal ranges will also affect the low water period and subsequently the available water over these periods is predicted to be much less than on normal spring tides. In addition to the enhanced tidal range there will also be a risk of increased tidal flows.

Weather conditions will continue to play a dominant role in whether tides meet predictions, therefore mariners are advised to pay particular attention to observed heights especially during low water periods where there may be a risk of a negative tidal surge.

The dates where the most notable high tides are expected are;

27th – 30th September 2015
27th – 30th October 2015
25th – 27th December 2015
11th – 14th January 2016

Tidal predictions and observations can be found at the following links.

For the latest information contact London VTS on VHF Channel 68/14 or by telephone on 01474 560311.

For Mersea residents or visitors the Christmas dates might be worth noting although local tide tables put the highest tides at half a metre less than those expected at the end of this month. Plus also the warning regarding less water than normal at low water.

Thanks Roger, of interest also to residents of Pin Mill in particular and the Shotley peninsula in general where access by road is affected by high tides.

Of particular interest to me too now that we're on a drying mud berth. On the up side we'll be able to get on and off for longer either side of HW, on the downside our mooring lines might need easing off somewhat!. Thanks, as always

Thanks Roger
My band have been invited to play a gig in West Mersea on 27 December.
Looks like we could struggle to get out again as my tide thingy says HW is around 23:45

HW at the Hard, West Mersea on the night of Sunday 27th December/28th December is 0138 (on Monday 28th) or for the Sat/Sun night is 0058 on Sunday morning - be off the island an hour before. As I said earlier, the preditions for West Mersea are just showing a 'normal' spring tide of 5.3m which in Mersea speak is a 'big' tide but not an extra big one (ie 5.8 for the end of this month). But of course get a northerly blowing.......

For the past year or so I have found the high tide level a long way below the tide prediction
