Today's HW at Chichester Bar was predicted to be 4.4m at 1510.

At our drying mooring up the harbour, we had a tide I'd associate with a 5.1 at Chi Bar.

Chimet recorded a surge of 0.77m and a tide of 5.22m.

Atmospheric pressure 1008, wind W F5.

Any ideas?

Portsmouth looked high a d it was about 0.5 above predicted. Not sure why though, interested to know why also.

The Atmospheric Pressure, at 1008, was five hPa, (or mb) below 1013, the average. Each unit of pressure below average allows the water level to be higher than average by one centimetre, so that will account for five centimetres of rise, wind-induced surge would account for the remainder, but no one so far has mentioned the wind direction and strength, and mid-Atlantic weather, which would be by far the most influential factor. Ask the residents and traders of Cork City when southerly winds and a Spring Tide coincides with big swell from the southwest, resulting from a recent major storm in mid-Adlantic, causes a major surge right up Cork Harbour flooding the centre of the city. There has been some seriously bad weather to the west of these islands lately.
