My watermaker's hp relief (pop) valve seems to have failed (only part was 316, I think, and it quickly began to leak) and I've been trying to find a replacement. I need one in 316SS for around 950psi. Quite small - 1/2 NPT. All I've come across are hugely expensive ones. Any idea where I might locate a replacement at reasonable cost? Pump is a small General Pump one.

That is what I used and it failed.

Perhaps you were using it wrong?
A lot of 'relief' valves are not designed to see many hours of water flow, and they're designed to fail safe. I.e. leak when worn.
Do you have good enough pressure regulation to avoid the relief vlave being over-used?

If your relief valve is cycling often due to the system design, should you have a second safety valve?

Not sure 316 is actually material of choice for wearing parts in HP water either.

It really didn't take long for it to start to leak and I just think that it would be ok with fresh water but not with salt. The regulator is fine and the gauge shows that I haven't been anywhere near relief psi. I have located a US part which seems appropriate and is mainly in 316: https://www.generalpump.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/100993-SRV.pdf Just see whether it can be bought here or has to be imported.

I would expect that prv’s for sea water use very limited market, all of the PRV we use work are US manufactured, although we mostly have them refurbished/ overhauled as this has to be done every 5 years to comply with regs. Most of the refurb guys have full machine shops as the valve seats mostly need replacing along with internal springs so they should be able to modify to 316 if needed.

Or get the 500psi on in the current material and send it elsewhere to be reset to the pressure you need. 950 psi is not that high, we regularly use PRVs at 80 bar but they tend to be either brass or steel

One from US is coming up at $37. Just waiting for delivery cost. Might be cheapest tactic.

Just had UK quote for £460 for what I need. No wonder no one manufactures in UK - parts seem exhorbitantly priced.

Griggs Direct have solved my problem. They'll import from US with their next order. £50 or so plus delivery and vat. Happy days. But no wonder manufacturers are leaving UK - components are not being made here anymore. And that lack of production seems to include EU countries.
