Well, Phoenix is lifted..... mast down.

Plans to check and refurb mast this winter, plus fit the masthead bits that Jim and I failed to do with mast in situ due to discovering that the mast follows the same design principles as the rest of the boat, ie heavy duty, and didn't fancy drilling through a half inch thick plate while hanging in a bosuns chair.

also, job situation willing, will be removing engine, and fitting a new one...

First time she's been out of the water for 24 months, so will also be doing usual winter checks and maintenance on seacocks etc..

Nice not to have to worry about winterising the engine this time... she can freeze up all she likes!

Mind you, it did take me 2hrs to empty the water tank..... its BIG!

So, who is staying in, and about to tell me of all the fabulous winter saiing they have planned?

We're staying in but I dunno about and fabulous wintery sailing

It'll be January at the earliest and doubtless cold enough to crack nuts before I get a chance to get down to the boat and then it's all hands to domestic renovations and trying to earn some pennies so I don't think I've much chance of going sailing :/

Taking the boat to Tollesbury on 5th Jan for blasting/coppercoat in their heated shed. Will fit new prop shaft and stern gland while it's out. Then staying in until a summer scrub in 2016.

Staying in.
Not much sailing so far. Only left the berth once since end October: combination of work/weather and health.

Plan to come out winter 2015-2016 for the final leg of our refit (will be in Bahrain at the time if everything goes according to plan).
Summer 2016 -> move the boat to Brittany. :encouragement:

Yes, we are staying in, as we usually do.

We had a super two days afloat last weekend, anchoring in Pyefleet, with a cracking sail on each day.

There is even a photo of us on Sunday coming into the crouch on yourboatpix, and this forum! We chased another Bridgemarsh resident who was about half a mile in front of us at the Spitway, and finally we overtook him near the Buxey buoys, where we took photos of each other. To be fair, his boat is smaller than Alshira, and we are a lot closer winded, so that when we came into the Crouch and had to put in a few tacks, we pulled ahead by a long way and arrived home half an hour before him.

It's got 20 year old Toplac on and it's gone faded, chalky and multi shades of blue. But to put Awlgrip on would have meant all of that sanded off and the mother of all filling and fairing, plus a very expensive paint job. This way they can lightly sand, undercoat and Toplac in white for about half the cost, I'm a big fan of Toplac and as it will be Oyster white it will suit the aged coachroof and be easily touched up - when we touch up with blue now it looks an entirely different colour the old is so faded. Can't see Oyster white fading much. The yard have a cunning plan to get it done next spring.
