Hi

Based on the Orwell so I have to like mud. Someone from the East Coast Forum suggested looking here.
Spent the best part of the day seeking and destroying a gremlin on the boat. Success!

Welcome, and do come over to the East Coast forum as well, we have our own burgee!

Which marina/club are you based at, and what do you sail?

Ah!

So you don't mean the east coast of 'God's Country'!!

Terribly sad,

But welcome.

Jonathan

Oz is a bit of a way for me to sail, sorry!

Welcome to the forum. It's worth noting that the East Coast extends from Thurso to Folkestone, and doesn't begin and end at Southend-on-Sea, as some seem to think.

I used to live in Chester-Le-Street so yes, fully familiar with the East Coast up to Newcastle and I loved it. But, and here I’ll be very honest and a little controversial, I do love the Orwell. Best river sailing in the country THAT I’VE VISITED!
No offence meant!

The Blackwater awaits. Proper sailing river.

Where is Thurso?

It's on your Chart Cartridge, on the other side. You have to take it out, turn it over, brush off the cobwebs, and put it back in again.

Not much good to you if'n you don't go outside VHF range of the club at Brightlingsea.....

The Blackwater has its points, but it is less of a 'river' than the Orwell and more like an estuary, so Charlie is not far off in calling the Orwell the finest river. The Deben may be more beautiful and the Ore/Auld more interesting, but the Orwell wins on sailability.

My dear chap. The Blackwater is a Ria. Not a river, not an estuary. 'Orwell wins on sailability' ???? Scribble Sir, scribble.

I wasn't me wot said that the Blackwater was a river, it was that MoodySabrey chap. I hadn't thought of it as a ria either but we live and learn, sometimes.
