Hi - Could I ask your advice?

Thanks Guys,

I think I'll get on one of the courses you suggest and pick up some more familiarity and experience.
Will be back looking for updated info in due course.
Thanks again for taking the time to steer this n00bie in the right direction.

Everyone on here was a newbie once. You should not ever be criticised for asking what may appear to others to be obvious or silly. If you don't know how else do you find out other than by asking or reading ?

Be aware that not all the advice will be that reliable though - reader beware !

Besides I have been boating for a few years now and still ask questions when I don't know something. I simply ignore the clever answers that actually contribute zip to my actual problem.

When I started in motorboats, this forum was the place to find out about anything I didn't know.
When I started I considered that 80% is rubbish but that last 20% was worth its weight in gold.
Get to know how to use the search facility.
And if you still can't find anything try using Google to search this site.
You do this by typing the following into Google
"the thing you want to search for" site:www.ybw.com/forums
Using that search and the "in built" one at the top right of this page, you should find everything that you need to get into boating.

Thanks again all.
Off to The Boat Show in London on Jan. 9th, to start acquiring a secondary 'feel' for my subject.
Intend involving myself a lot more from now on and, as I intend buying a used vessel in a few years, it might even be one I view at the show.
:)

Several of us from this forum meet up on the "late Thursday", 12th Jan this year, at about 6 pm. The show will be a good place to get on board a number of different boats, and you will get a feel for the "showroom" aspect. Nothing like being on the water though. Don't expect your first mobo to be 100% fit for you. Our first mobo lasted less than 6 months, as we mistook showroom appeal for practicality, and we were less than realistic about the required budget.
If you pick up on a marina where you fancy keeping your boat, get to know the marina staff, and see if you can meet some of the regulars there, bum a trip or 2 out. In my experience most moboers are genuine people, happy to share their knowledge and experience. As others have said, browse the Thames Forum as well, and maybe ask on there if anyone is willing to take you as crew now and again?
Good luck
