Well me being a tight bar steward, I have Standard Horizon with some bang up to date battery affair, and a second supplied full of holes that you put 4 AA Duracells in for back up. Have found it very efficacious and loud, and liked the bendy squishy antenna jobby.
No its not DSC. But its damn cheap.

I expect a lot of proponents of similarly owned and cherished models and manufacturers. may the threads commence....

Hee hee ... we've got the same Navico VHF, for the club - new battery got cooked /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif not going to buy another!!

Can't you "open" the battery pack and replace the dead cells. Maplin do a comprehensive range of Ni-Cd and NiMH either with tangs or without.

I managed to open my camcorder batteries (hot knife blade) and replace the cells then epoxy the two halves of the case back together cost about £25 per battery as against over £90 new.

Some battery packs I have seen had little screws holding them closed.

this aint that funny from where Im sitting, this is the second bit o crap gear from this manufacturer ive had it cost around 400 + squids , works out @ about £30 per use.

Haa B**Dy Haa.... I sympathise a little, but batteries are usually the most expensive spare parts, cos that is usually what ppl need to buy ... my crapard hell laptop battery is shot, but I'm not about to spend £120 on a replacement - better off buying a new laptop!! (and relegating this one to the boat! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif )

Thanks for the thought about replacing the internal batteries - I'll have a look when I can. Just hooking up a power cable for the Silva S12 HH to run it off the RIB battery - battery has failed in that one after less than a year!!

Must pay attention to this Forum, over & over again members have recommended Icom. On a charter boat portable VHF radio 2 years old, batteries not holding charge. Send them back sir & we will check them for you. I did and they just replaced them FOC. I will only buy Icom from now and forever!

[/ QUOTE ]Charter operation... there you have it. That is the duty cycle most HH-VHF are made for - continuous use. It is the really hard duty cycle of a couple of days use, then left on shelf to slowly discharge, which most batteries don't like.

As someone else earlier said: take the rechargable pack to bits and replace the batteries with off-the-shelf NiMH. That's what I have done with my Garmin 725, since the beast came with NiCd in the first place. Now it is fine.
