Hfl generator issue

Hi yes, of course, no problem I had huge trouble many years ago tracking down a manual. If you PM me your email address, I will send you a link to my server so you can download the HFL and Engine manuals which I scanned in PDF format.

If the Genny has been disconnected, or left/unused, for a long time you may just need to flash the rotor winding to re-charge the capacitor. It is a relatively simple process described in the manual IIRC.
Hi John, is this manual still available please? I have been searching for it everywhere. Mail rino@pipebrann.no

Hello. I'm from Greece and I have a hfl 6 kw generator and like others I read in your discussions I have a problem with the voltage.
At first the rotor blade was moved and the wires were cut from the diodes. After I fixed it and only when I gave 12 V to the ends of the capacitor it gave me a 240 V generator. But after I repaired the engine (the first one got water) again the same. Then I wound the stator, but nothing.
My generator gave me 240v only when I put in a 120mf capacitor, when at first it had 50mf. But then the auxiliary circuit got too hot for me. John I read that you have a pdf with instructions. Can you help me please

Yes of course, if you send me your email I will forward the HFL manual, I will look at my photos later to see what size capacitor was fitted to my 6kVA Genny!

As you say on rare occasions if the capacitor looses its charge, you do need to flash it.

I have flash it for several times and with different capacitors but the gen gives me 2-3 volts. My mail is markakis25es@gmail.com
Thank you!

The capacitor you are using now seems to be far too big, it needs to be 40mF see image below, I note you had a 50mF originally. The charge is only used to excite a winding on start-up, until it builds up the magnetic field once rotating. This is a simple method but I must say it does work very well.2.jpeg1.jpeg

I know about the flashing and I have done this in several generators and it works, but here it seems to be not magnitized. Thank you any way. I will study your notes.

Hi

I have emailed you the documents on the engine and genny - let me know if they download OK

John
Hey john Erik here from Holland. I'm having a hell of a time finding a manual for my 4kva HFL generator. So I guess you sort of see the question coming.

On a sidenote however glad I am I came across this thread, HFL isn't doing themselves any favors here.

No problem, I will send you an email shortly to enable you to download the documents I have.
Hi John
I hope you can help me
I purchased a motor boat with a HFL H2M6M1C generator, I have tried everywhere including HFL for instructions and wiring as the unit has not run for some time and I intend to strip and repair
You seem to be the only person on the planet that has a manual that will anllow me to get it going and would it be possible to get a copy.
My email is gary.b@bpcventilation.com

PM Me your email address. I completely stripped-down and re-built a HFL 6kVA and had the stator re-wound last year.

After a LOT of trouble I eventually managed to track down a manual which will find invaluable. I can scan and email it.

Basically, once started the control circuit monitors the oil pressure and a temp switch and if one activates, the fuel pump relay drops out and the engine will stop. I have all the schematics with some of my notes on them.
Hi I’m new to this forum but have just bought a boat with HFL generator not working do you still have the manual for this if so would it be possible to have a copy thank you.
See you are at San Carlos I was there a couple of years ago looking at Fairline 58 think it’s still there.

Hi Paul

I am no longer located in SC, I sold my Princess 45 in October.

Not sure if you still need the HFL manual, if so, PM me your email address and I will send you a link to download it complete with the engine manual.
