Doubtless many here are experienced in this.
I am looking for a sensibly priced reciever to access weatherfax in the N Atlantic.

An obvious choice is the Nasa/Target HF3 P/W but I read in some places that it is sensitive to electrical noise due to being part of the boat's necessarily noisy 12v system, especially with smart chargers, wind generators, nav electronics and USB voltage converters all adding to the clamour...

Is this really an issue?

Does an independent battery-powered reciever really make much diference? Are battery powered "transistor radio" type world band recievers really up to this task? Can they be connected to a credible antenna?

What does the Team think?

This has been discussed recently and I posted video of real life reception in the Atlantic.
Portable radio with a bit of wire up to the spreader works fine.
