called heybridge lock today on off chance, and got a visitors berth! couple of us motorboaters from Mersea zipping down for that, should be good, and boozy!

Where there many people there? The weather in Mersea was not good, and I did not see many boats going up the river - I felt sorry for the organisers

well, went down there with grumps and co, ive never been to that regatta, he said it was the quietest he had ever seen it, bit lumpy on way down! water flying over boat etc, force 6 or 7!?

Sorry to hear this, although it is much as I expected, sorry for the organizers. However, I hope this does not put you off going in future years, the Heybridge regatta is a good one, both for those taking part and spectators - I have been many years.

Rowhedge regatta next Saturday

We were in one of the safety boats with photographers on board.

The smacks were off like rockets on the broad reach from Hilly Point towards the Doctor buoy, with the ECO's tramping after and the modern Bermudian rigs catching up. They all turned and raced back up in a strong breeze, the clouds cleared, the sun came out and it was heaven. Turned the corner in to the final stretch and wind 'attacked' it had to have been hiding behind the clouds because it came at an eight at least.

For us it was light water all over, for the yachts those who had their reefs in early were happy others not so. Great finish, lots of fun and a great benefit to charity.

The burgers and beer afterwards were never more welcome.
