I will be in the Heybridge area tomorrow and looking for somewhere to have lunch.
Now the Old Ship at Heybridge was always a good bet however its getting a real slating on Tripadvisor enough to put me off.
So does anyone have any recomendations for lunch around that area ?

The Old Ship is seriously need of investment. The food in the Jolly Sailor at Heybridge Basin is good. A lighter lunch might be in the Wilkins (of jam fame) cafe on the seawall.

I can see what folks might think about The Ship and investment but can only speak as we found on the food front last week. Best Mussels I have had since Belgium. The Jolly Sailor however is very good and we had a very enjoyable meal there too.

as MS alludes the Wilkins Cafe is good, had a really nice Breakfast there.

T' other side of the Dengie from us, nearest we've come to crossing paths since I bought your dinghy and outboard!

Can recommend the Jolly Sailor, very good

As for crossing paths if your house is still in the same place its a poor show by both of us less than 10 miles........

Very true! These days though I'm hardly ever there. Another year or so and that'll probably be permanent

We really should get together fora beer though

The food at The Old Ship is absolutely horrendous. The Jolly Sailor is also to be avoided like the plague.

The wilkins cafe is reasonable for a light lunch and very good for a cream tea.

First bad word I've ever heard said about the Jolly Sailor. My brother is often at Heybridge on Essex waterway recovery group working parties and that's their pub of choice

Thanks for the comments, in the end plans changed and we didn't get there........
Ended up in the Lobster Smack on Canvey as it was closer to where we had to be.
Didn't eat but beer was good, would love to there by boat, thought of doing it in the barge but never made it. In the Narrowboat it would be a challenge unless the weather was like it was today.

You can walk up the canal tow path or use a tender and ride to the designated berth for the La Bouchon, in Holloway Road, if you want an excellent meal.

Dress, smart casual. Brilliant food, good wine selection and efficient staff. Check their web site as they give special discount meals.

Not cheap but very good and our lunch with friends yesterday was excellent.

Just Heybridge Basin then Jolly Sailor wins hands down.

Me and Mrs B recomend the Lobster Smack on Canvey good food and good value. If going by boat I think you could anchor and row ashore. You would need to check this out though.
