Went for a little walk this afternoon, a bit breezy! Anyway, had a look at what they were doing at the lock gates. Plenty of guys in hard hats standing round and one of them told me that they are putting in a coffer dam at the moment so that they can work on the lock without the tide flooding everything. Took a picture so I could share it with people who know the Basin but who perhaps don't get there in winter.

There is a sheet piling dam above the top gates too to stop any fresh water going out.
