Hi Tourniquet

Find your nearest sailing club and see if they have a cadet section. Many clubs will train youngsters in club dingies so not only will you get the use of a club boat but you will get good training too. Have a look at the RYA (Royal Yachting Association) web site to find a club near you.

Good luck and dont blame us if you get totally hooked

There are hundreds of boats littering peoples driveways up and down the country, many will never move, many owners would be glad if you were to remove them for them (with their permission of course).

By 13 my friend and I had scavved our first boat, a mirror dinghy which was fabulous fun. If you start with the right attitude, talk to sailors, your bf and you may have a boat to play with by the end of summer.

It is a case of positive mental attitude, I want a boat, I will get a boat.

Anything is possible.

Stay with us and I am sure by reading the various forums here, you will learn alot.

I don't know what your looking to buy, but a good place to look for a cheap bargain, are the free ad papers. Quite often you can find something that needs some work. That way you can also find out about the structure and build of boats, which may help you to understand why they perform the way they do.

Another place to look is in the yellow pages of the Boats for Sale Under £20,000.

Ignore the fact that we are supposed to be grown ups. We forget we used to be 13 once, however we often act like we are about six.

Best wishes with your dream.

have a word at school about sailing at weekends or sailing holidays both are cheap, and are available through outward bound coarses, best person to ask would be your sport teacher. If you have a local youth club ask them to find out for you.
If your folks aren't iterested in sailing find a school friend that is or start a school group(the loader the voice the more you will be listened to).
After playing sport for the school and county, in my last year my sports teacher asked us what we would like to do, so he fix it for us to learn to sail. I left school at 15 with no formal qualifications, I now have my own business and a 32 ft yacht.
If you want it bad enough YOU can make it happen.
regards
Dave

Let the forum know whereabouts in Wales you live - only roughly! Locals can them let you know whats about in the way of sailing schools, clubs etc. Mirror dinghy is a great starter boat. My dad built one from kit when I was 12. I helped - I think! I learned to sail that and picked it up again when at college. Its like riding a bike. Got a mirror dinghy myself when my son was 8. Now got a Moody 31. Can go further but its no more fun! My son now prefers his Topper.

Yes, and also read Tania Abei's book Maiden Voyage. She was only 18 when she sailed round the world in a 26 footer - and met her husband on the way!
