Heresy - Have Cancelled Subscription

I'd just like to say that I've really enjoyed it in the past few months. /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Why is it the British way to slag off everything, rather than work to improve through some positive comment.

You all spout off about cancelling your subs and do it on the vehicle (this forum) which is paid for by those subs.

For my pennys worth I enjoy both mags and whilst every article should be related to a sealine 365 or how to buy a targo 48 or swap it for a 365, I know that would not work.

Its the balance of the two mags and different styles which gives the wide variety of boaters something to read.

If you don't like it why not submit an article to Tom on a format or subject you think we all want. At worst it goes in the bin, at best it might show another avenue the mags could go down.

whats your glass..... half empty or like mine Half Full.........

<font color=blue>I sympathise with you. How do you find a journalistic spread that pleases everyone. Starting with a premise that you don't need to cater for the Narrow Boat owner, they have their own publication. Exclude the yellow welly brigade as they too have choices. That leaves us stinkies. Do you write for the salty stinkies or the freshwater fellows. The 5,000 or so of us that flit from fresh to salt are easy. What about the rest? River boaters only, sea boaters only, then there's the few hundred with Med based boats.
Yep! getting the right editorial mix must be hard. However I do think the idea of having a Riverbank news section and a Med boats section is a good one because it allows one to flip straight past sections of no interest.

Re: In defence

Hi Tripleace,

I think you'll find that Sandra was just taking a dig at me /forums/images/icons/wink.gif.

I actually totally agree with you. Looking at all the IPC mags in an organigram, I would see MBY at the top covering high-end motor and sail, separating on the way down with MBM on one side and YM and YW on the other and it should join again with PBO at the bottom for the DIY boater (Power & Sail). I have taken a pop at PBO recently because it frequently failed even to mention a motorboat in certain issues while claiming to be a magazine for both camps. If I were to cancel my sub to PBO, I would switch to another title and still buy it off the shelf when appropriate. I really enjoy reading mags and will glean ideas for my humble project from all sorts of sources, even including MBY and B*at International. When you're poor, the best part of going on holiday is reading the brochures!

Funnily enough, while winging about PBO, I was wondering if I could get the inspiration to pen an article. Having been addicted to these forums for the past year and having read many extremely informative and eloquent posts, I'm sure that many hereabouts could contribute much to the IPC family of mags.

Time will tell.

Your right Byron. Unfortunatly. Maybe they should write a new version of Lancashire life.

I used to love reading Cumbridge as long as it was about some where in range. If only in dreams. Boat Tests are good too. But only if there somewhere in my price range. Dont want to read about something worth £100000000000000000000000 or £10 Just the ones in the right place in the middle. Trouble is. We are all different, some with a few more pennies, some with less. Maybe theres room for a bespoke mag. Each copy taylor made to inside leg and A B and C cups with matching suspender belt.

I like your suggestion of clearer segmentation so that the reader knows there will always be something of specific interest to him (/her) and can easily skip ones of no interest or taking milltec's point of expanding knowledge into other 'zones' if one has the time/inclination.

Re: In defence

Quite right - I was just having a little pop at your choice of words. /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif - Now if i didn't know you better I would thought you worded it like that deliberately /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

Anyway I subscribe to MBM and have just got a friend to do the same - I think it has taken a slight drop in quality of content but is still an excellent magazine and I will continue to subscribe. I like the new section on classic boats over the last 30 yrs or so.

Re: In defence

I guess Adrian, this shows part of the problem of how you try to please all. I find nothing more boring than classic boats. I'm pleased that I haven't got the problem of trying to make money out of pleasing such a wide 'narrow' audience (if you get my drift)

Re: PBO

Having read through this month's MBM in about 20 minutes and finding nothing of any interest I wondered why I bothered to subscribe. I found myself with an hour to spare the other day and bought PBO, I couldn't put it down, most of the articles semed relevant. OK most of it was aimed and bearded real ale drinkers but it was a much better read than MBM.

Another raggie who doesn't like nippples and legs...so even fatipa exits the closet! /forums/images/icons/wink.gif.

P.S. My long-legged blonde secretary wrote this cos I'm thick and can't write either.

P.P.S. I also subscribe to 'The Beano'

Re: Flawed assumption.

This sounds good, but I'd lose the adverts as far too wordy, unless they just show pictures of what's for sale

I think we have the basis of the perfect stinkie magazine:

Cartoons of raggies sinking, and tossing around in the wake of fast powerboats

Piccies of boats for sale

Naked/topless ladies on latest expensive/biggest boats on the market

T shirt clad but quite pretty ladies on 'previously owned'/smaller boats

Piccies of places to go ( could have little fuel gauge diagrams to show how far away they are) and instructions on how to program the destination into autoroute

Piccies of places to eat and drink (maybe the odd feature that shows piccies of the menu if it's posh nosh and nicely presented)

Piccies of blissfully happy stinkies drinking G&T's at destination (always, always, shot in brilliant sunshine) with gorgeous tottie in background

Weather forecasts in simple pictorial style. eg. Feb..Man in wet weather gear looking uncomfortable on a raggie with waves towering over mast. June..Man, with many topless wimmin, drinking G&T in beautiful marina, in glorious sunshine

Re: In defence

I think it is good to have a balanced look at new and classic boats - only covering boats that are brand new is a bit pointless as most readers will never buy new.

I guess it depends upon what boat you have now and what you next boat will be !!!!
