Just thought you'd like to see the boat that is going to take over Sam's mooring. She belongs to a mate of mine and he is going to restore her. Built in Holland in 1929 she is riveted steel.

I dare say that once done he will use it, probably attend rallies for classical boats etc. It's so far in the future I doubt he's even thought about it.

ELVE. And she already HAS been restored a bit having had her underwater parts replaced a few years ago, in the correct way, ie hot rivetted steel plating. Nice boat, been at Cookham Dean for a while. Perkins 6354 diesel in her. I'd love to see her being used.
more information on her part of the way down this page:

She is rivetted steel and has been rebuilt correctly. It'd be great to see her there next year. This year there was a serious lack of metal work. A lot of wood and moulded type boats were about. I know splitters aren't allowed at the trad boat rally but at some point in the future I can't help thinking there may be some 'traditiona'l GRP boats, like early Freeman 22's and things.
Will these 'plastic' boats ever be invited to the rally or is it against general policy to allow boats made of the what could be described as the most appropriate hull material ever to be allowed to attend the rally as participants rather than bystanders???

Personally I think that one day certain 'plastic' boats will be considered traditional. Certainly the early 20' evergreen Freemans are already in my view an absolute joy when in pristine condition. I have no idea of the criteria used but if my assessment is right then some Parrot 20' Slipper Launches would not qualify because he built some with fibre glass hulls. Yet they are clearly trad boats right down to their Stuart Turner engines.

I can assure you both that there have been many discussions about including GRP and as yet there is no intention to do so. To the extent that trade stands are not allowed to show grp boats either, much to the disgust of Val Wyatt.
I am sure there will come a time, and as the owner of a Freeman myself I have mixed allegences, but that time is not yet here!
