My introduction to blue water sailing was a wooden 50sq m windfall that a friend boughtFisksatra also built those Knud Reimer's skerry cruisers. Very different to the apple of Wandworth's eye; forty foot long and less beam than a Sadler 25:

The great advantage of a long keel is it allows the skipper to feel smug when they successfully manoeuvre it in tight, tricky spaces.
(Any fool can do that with a boat that turns on a sixpence, and the rudder and propellor work in both forward and reverse! )
You have no idea if you haven’t owned a Vega

Have had two long keelers a mashford four tonner about 23 foot loa with Stuart Turner swinging a 14inch prop with right handed propand a 40 foot with a 70 hp Ford swinging a 23 inch prop again right handed in both cases the judicious application of full ahead tiller to starboard the stern whipped round very quickly and the vessel more or less stopped after the short burst of power…….well from memory
No as it. Was molded from only one half mould and formed bolting the two halves. together it hadshort keel in the middle.I fashioned a skeg at theend where Macwester decided to fit the rudder so it was a fin and s keg with the rudder mounted on the stearnYour Macwester Kelpie had a long, keel, too, did it not?
